Background Check - should I let them know?

Let's say you've been working at your family business since the beginning of time. And on your resume it says that you started working there in 2005 (actually started earlier, but gained more responsibility then).

Now, let's say that you've only been on the books since 2007.

Is this going to be an issue in the background check?

Reasons why I think it will. (1) Tax forms show 2007 - inconsistent with resume dates.

Reasons why I think it won't (1) Everyone at my family business can vouch. (2) It is in fact a FAMILY business. (3) It is completely unrelated to banking and did not help me get the offer in any real way.

Now, I don't want to risk this being an issue down the road. Should I call HR and let them know? Maybe I should say I was working, but not getting paid?

I'm a bit anxious, so any help is appreciated.

Search the forum...there are plenty of posts detailing the background check process along with when and when not to worry. From what I've heard, its an independent third party who simply gives a quick ring to your previous employer to confirm your employment there. In your case, its a family business and in my opinion you have nothing to worry about!
