BB Credit to Levfin
hey lads, I joined BB couple months ago as a fresh grad in the credit team. But sooner or later, I wanted to lateral into lev fin if possible. our team work pretty closely with corp bankers and rarely w/ levfin (no experience yet). Still fresh grad analyst and I think there is this 12month no-shift policy within the firm but should I start actively networking with the team i want to jump and ask if they spot? or suck it up for a year and then actively ask for lateral to my manager? I know it gets stickier to shift to team the longer youre in the credit. or can i still apply for 2024 graduate program?
Hey there! It sounds like you're in a great position to start your career in the credit field. As for your question about moving to Lev Fin, it's never too early to start networking. Even if there's a 12-month no-shift policy, building relationships and expressing your interest won't hurt.
However, it's also important to show commitment to your current role. You don't want to give the impression that you're not interested in your current position. So, while you're networking, also make sure you're doing your best in your current role.
As for applying for the 2024 graduate program, that could be a good option if you're still interested in making the shift after a year. But remember, the most important thing is to excel in your current role and build strong relationships. That will open up more opportunities for you in the long run.

Hey man, wanted to chime in here as I just did this lol- I started in a credit team at a top BB and got lots of relationship time with folks over in corp banking and dcm. I am now moving to levfin within IBD and am really excited about it. My firm also had a 12 month no-move policy but I would say just make sure you're on top of the internal job site whenever you're close to doing a full year. When you see a role you like, apply immediately and send a note to the hiring manager (one of the main perks of being internal is you can reach out to them so easily) and express your interest. I wouldn't say networking is hugely important because at the end of the day, they don't hand out jobs rn unless there are open seats. You will still have to go through the full interview process as you would be if you were external but I think you have a leg up bc its generally easier to hire someone already at the firm. Plus, credit is a rly good starting spot if you're interested in capital markets roles.
Hey really appreciate this and congrats on your new chapter too. Can I dm you for some follow up qs?
