BB Timeline

I’ve been interviewing for an associate role since late Feb and had my last round in mid-April. I followed up a couple weeks ago, and the MD said there’s no update yet. They’ve been responsive each time I check in, and I felt the interviews went well. Is this delay normal, or is it likely a rejection at this point?

Delays in the hiring process, especially for associate roles, are not uncommon. Based on insights from WSO threads, there are a few potential reasons for this situation:

  1. Internal Delays: Companies often face internal challenges such as budget approvals, headcount sign-offs, or decision-making bottlenecks. For example, in one case, a senior person needed to sign off but was unavailable due to vacation or other priorities, causing significant delays.

  2. Interviewing Other Candidates: It's possible they are still evaluating other candidates or waiting for decisions from other interviewees. This doesn't necessarily mean rejection but could indicate you're in a holding pattern.

  3. Responsive Communication: The fact that the MD has been responsive and hasn't given a definitive "no" is a positive sign. It suggests you're still in consideration, even if the process is taking longer than expected.

  4. Next Steps: Continue to follow up periodically (every 1-2 weeks) to express your interest and stay on their radar. However, it's also wise to keep exploring other opportunities in parallel to avoid putting all your eggs in one basket.

Delays can be frustrating, but they don't always mean rejection. Stay proactive and patient while keeping your options open.
