Blasting Cold Emails
I am in the process of moving from a Corp finance role to IB, most likely a small regional bank.
I have a good finance base but have not sharpened my technicals enough yet to be prepared for an interview. I’ll probably need 3-4 months of grinding to be comfortable.
Should I start sending cold emails now?
Or wait until I’m ready to talk on the topics with more confidence?
I don’t want to “waste my chances” on small banks in the area if I send emails and get opportunities when I’m not ready but I was also told to chase networking as soon as possible no matter what just to start the relationship building.
Any advice or response would be greatly appreciated!
Don’t expect anyone you reach out to to start grilling you on low-level technicals. MDs likely won’t ask technical questions at all. Be prepared to answer high-level industry questions if anything. These will be open ended in nature.
in general, you should frame your networking messages as requests for information interviews - this means you will be asking them the questions (about their job, career advice, etc). You should have 2 things prepared IMO: your overview/“story”, and questions to ask the person.
