Can I keep recruiting after accepting an offer?

So I accepted an offer from a bank, but it isn't really an ideal position. Its not in NYC, and I don't know what group it would be in. But I took it, since the market is bad right now.

Is it ok to keep recruiting and renege if I get something else? If I get an offer from another bank of similar stature in the same geographic area, is it possible that the first bank finds out? Could I get in trouble and lose both offers?

How about if my other offer is in a completely different industry, such as real estate? I am currently recruiting for a couple of REPE roles in a completely different geographic location, so could I get in trouble if I accept that type of role? Any chance my current bank finds out later on?

I wouldn't keep recruiting (submitting applications), but if you're wrapping up interviews and something significantly better comes up, I don't see why not. Sure the company doesn't give a shit about you, but you still gave the expectation that you were excited to join the position. Furthermore, you should consider that you are dealing with people. Whatever team, or group that you would have been joining and that you interviewed with will have to deal with it. If your interview experience was pleasant, then also consider you kinda just flipped the bird at them. Still, 99.9% of places will cut you or pull your offer without a second.

If you do renege, don't make a habit out of it. Consider it a one time free pass.
