Canadian IB Exits
Does anyone have a sense for the types of exits I-bankers can expect at the associate level in Canada? How much of a pay cut would I have to take?
I'm potentially transferring to Canada for family-related reasons, but I've been out of the loop in regard to to the Canadian job market for many years now. I don't intend to stay in I-banking for very long, and I know I can't expect the same amount of $$$ out of the exit ops in Canada as I would in the States, but if anyone has a sense for what's typical, that would be super helpful.
If it helps, I'm at one of TD/RBC/BMO.
buyside exits are dominated by pension funds and mm pe firms - Onex is the only MF in canada (though there are prominent pe firms e.g CAI, brookfield, ONCAP, etc)
w.r.t pay, larger pension funds (cppib / ontario teachers) pay slightly less than banking for base salaries and 50-70% for bonus for entry level positions.
for pe firms (not onex), all-in haircut ranges from 15-40%.
onex is the only one (afaik) to pay above banking and recruit the same way as US megafunds
Is compensation at Brookfield generally comparable to comp at Onex? Or, given Brookfield's size, would this also depend on the specific Brookfield company/branch?
