Career Change to Internal Wholesaling

Hello, everyone. I wanted to pick some brains about changing careers into an internal wholesaler position, specializing in the REIT industry. I'm 29 years old (have a bachelor's degree in business analytics - finance) and have been working for a construction company as a financial controller. The "joy" of sitting in the back-office crunching project/company numbers has faded significantly. I was talking to some family, who are regional wholesalers, and they were explaining their day-to-days, which seems like a path I'd want to take, especially with my interest investment and the markets (I know it sounds broad, but trying to keep it short). When I asked about how I could I break into the industry, they said to look at investor relation jobs first and go from there. Does this seem like a reasonable path to becoming an IW, or would this get me stuck in IR? Does anyone have any other tips that they think would help me understand the REIT industry better and how I can break-in? This is something I'm considering soon, since I'm almost 30 and would like to set career goals for it. Thank you, all.
