Career Path Confusion! Deloitte vs GE Capital
Hey everyone!
I just recently received job offers from Deloitte Consulting for their Project Analyst Position, GE Capital for their Investment Analyst Program, and the National Futures Association for the staff auditor position.
I am a bit conflicted on which one would be the best choice. Many people have said Deloitte is a great place to work with good benefits and opportunity for growth within the company, but that they don't enjoy the hours. Then I've heard working with GE also has many opportunities and is a good company to work for in terms of the network and so on so forth.
I know the roles of the positions I've been offered all differ, but any suggestions on what would offer the best opportunities for my future seeing that this will be my first year right out of undergrad?

To clarify my position, GE Capital is great all around.
I have heard through my network that Deloitte is a sweatshop and the turnover rate is fairly high. Again, this is just what I have heard.

If you're interested in progressing in finance and/or b-school, GE Capital is going to be the more solid option.
Deloitte Project analyst is not really consulting in my opinion. The D has 3 consulting lines: Human Capital, Strategy & Operations, and Business Technology. Project analysts largely work to coordinate the deployment of the aforementioned 3 groups.
GE hands down.

Hey WSO, I need some advice regarding my first full-time position.
I received offers from GE Capital for the Investment Analyst program and Deloitte Consulting for the Project Analyst position. Both positions thoroughly interest me and are with very reputable firms, but I have no clue how to choose between them.
What's most important to me is training and future opportunities in terms of advancement and ability to transfer my skills to other companies and positions. I guess what I'm saying is I want the position that will open more doors to me later down the road. I do not know what area of finance or greater business I would like to have a career in, but want to use this first position to help me determine my career path.
Graduate school is also a very important goal of mine. I know the IA program is notorious for fast tracking employees to top 10 grad schools, but I was told many IA's end up in commercial lending and not needing advanced degrees.
Any advice you can offer on this is much appreciated. Thanks for the help!
GE Capital is pretty broad man, so is Deloitte consulting. Can you still us a little more about what you will be doing at each and what your goals are for the next 5-10 years?
Yea sure. GE Capital - Investment Analyst. GE Capital provides asset-based loans to clients. IA's travel to client sites, audit the client and perform risk analysis of the client's financials and pledged collateral. 2-3 year rotation grogram.
Deloitte Consulting - Project Analyst. PA's are assigned to a project that the consultants are working on. The PA's is responsible for making sure the entire project stays on track and is profitable for Deloitte. It's a lot of forecasting budgets, allocating project resources and creative problem solving.
As far as life goals - still working on those. 5 years time I'd like to be getting an MBA. A career goal at the moment is upper management - making strategical decisions for the future of the company. I realize how broad that is but beyond that I'm just not that sure. What Kind of questions were you asked in final round Investment Analyst at GE? Can you please be specific?
T-Accounting concepts, behavioral, leadership and team work questions. Don't try to memorize answers you think they want to hear, they'll pick up on that and dock you. Just draw from good life experiences.
My vote goes for GE Capital since the Deloitte role seems more like a project management/financial budgeting type role while at least the GE Capital role is an investment role.
