Career Path Question

What's going on guys,

I was hoping for a little feedback/advice on my current situation. For some background info, I've been doing wealth management at a major bank for a little under two years and it's, most likely to no surprise, been a serious roller coaster ride consisting of many ups and downs. This has been my first job since graduating with honors from an SEC school. The real predicament I'm in is that while I enjoy working with individuals on the retail level in WM, I've always felt like there's just been a missing piece of the puzzle in that I would like to do things on a grander and more analytic level. I'm in the process of studying for the GMAT with the hopes of taking it 3-4 months in the future and getting a good enough score to keep my options open. Assuming I do well enough on it and am able to get into a top tier school, what options do you all see as far as career opportunities in the banking sector keeping in mind that I will have had no experience on the private side when I graduate from school? Private equity would be an ideal endgame, but I'm uncertain that I'll be able to get on that path even after business school since I am doing WM now rather than working as an analyst at a bank. TL;DR, If I knock the GMAT out of the park and get into a top school and then perform well at that school, will the education and networking I get coming from a top notch school be enough to land me a job that could eventually put me on path to join a PE firm despite having no prior banking experience?
