Compensation Payback
I am looking to lateral to a larger firm and have interviews set-up. In my current contract there is a clause stating that if I leave before the end of my 2-year analyst program, I am required to payback all of my first year discretionary compensation. Does anyone know if a firm will make you honor this? Also, will a firm you get hired by pay back the bonus for you? Just curious what to expect here.
It varies - some firms definitely will enforce that rule, and others won't. The only way to get a better idea is if there's someone you can talk to who has recently left your firm under similar circumstances, and even then, the information might not be perfect since it can be decided on a case-by-case basis as well.
My best advice would be to work under the assumption that you may have to give that money back if you leave.
