Current job market

Currently a 2 year full time MBA student at a top 20 - 15 program. I heard internship recruiting was absolutely brutal this year especially for consulting and corporate roles. Wondering if people from different schools all the way up to M7 can confirm if their experiences were similar.

Also, wondering if this spells trouble for what would be FT recruiting in a couple of months.

Graduated last year and recruiting was tough. I landed a job I dislike and have been seeking a way out ever since. Recently, I've noticed that many investment banks, debt shops, and private credit firms now require modeling tests as part of their hiring process. I'm not sure if this trend started during COVID or as a result of the current economic climate.

Corporate finance is so easy though. Is that what you're in? Do you only dislike it because it is not challenging and not lots of money?

Im in a weird function project finance/corp dev at renewable energy investor. I dislike it because not a lot of money and not really transferable skills. I got cut from IB summer internship because there was no deal flow when I interned.

Had interviews at corporate / consulting / PE ops roles through on campus recruiting last year as a recent 2024 MBA grad (T20 - T25 rank). Got cut by all of them but made it to 2 final rounds (had 8 interviews).

Recruiting was painful in the second half of the year. Had only had 4 interviews since November last year, 3 were school facilitated. EDIT: Despite the job market report for July, I ended up having ~5 interviews last month (9 total since FT recruiting last year). Still in the process for 2 of them.

The prime time to search for off-campus corporate jobs was near graduation from March and onwards. Unfortunately for me, I had some personal issues that came up and I couldn't do much until the end of May.

My advice for now is to see what companies you plan to target for FT and start networking ASAP.
