If money isn't a huge factor, why not get a decent amount of experience at the PE firm to the extent that you can add some real substance to your resume and maybe get a few letters of recommendation and do some networking? It sounds like a solid gig, and unless I am mistaken it could very well be your ticket to getting into a good MM bank, and would probably even help once you move from IB to the buyside. I am by no means an expert though. Best of luck no matter which option you choose!

When does the IBD internship start?

It would look bad and you will surely burn some valuable bridges if you leave the PE internship after 1 week of working. If you can get 3-6 months of the PE internship under your belt and then if the IBD internship starts in summer that would be a much better move. If money isn't an issue could you do both, IBD & PE?

If you don't want to work in RE then just use the interview process with them as interview experience, but don't do something you don't want to do... It is an awful thing to show up everyday and do work you loath.

It sounds like the PE internship is a really good thing you have going...

IBD internship wants me to start ASAP..not sure if i'll be able to delay the start date and I probably won't be able to do both at the same time.

Honestly, the reason why the decision is so hard for me is because of the possibility of FT after the IBD internship. While I know it's not guaranteed, it's hard to pass up the opportunity to finally land a full time job...
