Did I Make a Mistake?

TL:DR – switched jobs and moved from FO to MO for personal reasons, realizing I made the wrong move. It’s only been a couple months, what to do? Looking for any advice…

--

I recently started working at a top BB doing middle office type work. I come from a front office background (5 years), and I made this move mainly for two reasons: higher base pay/short term stability and company recognition.

While I am getting paid more in base pay (~$40k), my TC is slightly less than what I took home during my FO days. However, when I mention I took the role for short term stability, I’m alluding to the fact I’m getting married in 15 months (we are trying to pay for everything ourselves; ~$85k) and being able to save some solid $$ up front from each paycheck helps a lot more than saving some $$ while mainly relying on YE bonuses at my prior job.

Now, the problem is that I feel disillusioned almost every time I go into the office (3x week). I realized quickly I did not ask all the proper questions during the interview process to further gauge what the role entailed. This is obviously my fault but was blinded by the opportunity to work at this bank.

To keep it vague, I simply am not a fit for this kind of work – there’s individuals out there who are, but I am not. It’s not hard work or anything, it’s just MO work and personalities (no offense to them either, that’s just not who I am). My team is cool, the culture is boring but that is expected for the work we are doing. However, there are notable differences in personality, motivation, and career goals between myself and my team, and the broader group on the floor that stood out right away.

What would you guys do in this situation? I’m too new to begin an internal transfer process (and I haven’t even networked with the FO teams) and I don’t want to start applying elsewhere unless I absolutely have to, which honestly might have to happen. Ideally, I stay in this role until I get married at the very least, but that’s still relatively far out. I don’t know I can continue to do this type of work until then and pretend that I am happy doing it.

Appreciate anything and everything.
