Family Office Exit Opportunities

I currently work for a small Family Office and our main clients are MDs at a PE firm. My day to day activities range from investment management to creating various models for their estate planning. Essentially, it is PWM. This family office seems to be pretty different from what I’ve seen in these forums. My initial thought when getting this role is that I would be on the investment team, but there isn’t anyone to learn from. I would like to jump to a different shop where I’d be given the opportunity to learn, but I am wondering how difficult it would be. My current feeling is that my current role hasn’t boosted my resume. My goal is to work in a role such as asset management or even a more established family office. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on exit opps outside of wealth management.

  • Do I have any potential exit opps or should I aim to rebrand via MBA and get a fresh start while it’s still very early in my career?

  • If the answer is to rebrand, how difficult would it be to get into a top program given that I just graduated from a non-target and didn’t get into a top firm?

Background: Graduated from a non-target this past year with a 3.9 GPA. Double major in finance and accounting. Had an internship in banking. “Startup” bank and was mostly deal sourcing.
