Finance jobs in the Balkans

Have had enough of NYC. Need to switch things up by a significant margin. Have been eyeing the Balkins (Mainly Albania, Croatia, Montenegro, Romania) as a potential living destination at least for a few years.

Assuming I can figure out the language element, are there any opportunities there in Finance?

Before you make a big decision like moving somewhere, it's good to know how to spell it. BALKANS, not Balkins my guy

I looked at this early in my career as I'm a Croatian living in the U.S. So not an expert by any means but here is what I learned from my research.

The main takeaway is that there are very few positions and they are dominated by experienced native born IB professionals who went abroad to London, Germany, or sometimes the United States and then came back. So very difficult to break in if you are a local with no out of country experience....and probably even more difficult to break in if you are a non-local coming from the outside regardless of experience.

Only place that looks more open to foreigners and has much more opportunity seems to be Budapest with presence from a couple of major banks. Would strongly consider that. Also, in many ways, Budapest is just a bigger version of Zagreb if that's the vibe that you're looking for.

EDIT: Also to add....the job market is just lousy in the Balkans and it's very much a culture of needing to know someone to get even dogshit corporate jobs. So don't expect that everyone is going to bow down to your NYC experience. Unfortunately, the culture just doesn't work like that for the most part. You gotta have a connection and you'll need a damn good connection for the rare few IB slots I imagine.
