Follow Up After First Round

I had a first round interview at a fund exactly 2 weeks ago. They said that I was "near the end of the list of people they were interviewing for the first round" and that they would get back to everyone about second rounds shortly after that.

I still have not heard back from them, is it too early to follow up, or should I wait a few more days?

Let me know.

Thanks.

not true, they probably interviewed more people and have been busy to find time to pick the ones in for second interviews

i have heard back from firms with first rounds like 2-3 weeks later with an invite for second rounds, so it really depends on the firm

i'd wait until wends then shoot them an e-mail

Thanks retc. That's what I'm hoping for.

We had a mutual contact in the industry and he told me they called him to ask about me the day after my interview, so that is a positive sign.

I'll send them an email later this week.

How does it work for hedge funds? I heard their prcoess takes longer and are more involved than pe recrutiting in which can be very fast (first rounds, get called back for a dinner / second rounds that night or tomorrow). Can you expect to wait a week or two to hear from a first round hf interview?

It varies - depends on how many people are interviewing and how much time per day they devote to interviewing people. Usually you hear back within a week or so

With PE firms, the process is very fast and structured. If you do not get a call back within a day or two (often, it's the very same day), you most likely didn't make the cut.

HFs, on the other hand, could take much longer. There is no real status quo to go by.

Interesting: I've done the above before and have been told by the analyst that HR is the one who disperses that information. It seems like first rounds in a lot of cases are a hybrid between the interviewer deciding if you move forward or the interviewer giving a semi-detailed response to HR about your "performance" and then HR making a decision from the information given -- or no?

I had a first round 3 weeks ago over phone and have reached out to HR consistently for them to tell me they haven't gotten any updates on my application -- i'm assuming meaning i'm not dinged (if they dinged me, it would have happened already, no?) but maybe not accepted into the first round of super days but on a sort of wait list maybe?

Ultimately, do what you think is right and so long as your professional nothing harmful can come from it.

Follow up with the people you interviewed with. Just shoot them an e-mail to reiterate your interest, don't ask if you are going to the superday.

It all depends when the superday is from my experience. If superday is within a week, a "yes" will probably be given either later that day or sometime the next day. If the superday is a couple of weeks away, the firm might take 2-3 days to say "yes", unless it is a "national" recruiting process in which you have to wait for the firm to conduct interviews at all their schools. But generally "yes" responses are given before "no" responses.
