Following Up about a Refferal

I recently connected with someone via linkedin. He gave me his phone number so that we could schedule a call. That call went well and he offered to refer me for a position should I find one that I'd be interested in applying to.

I just got a job alert about a position that I think I would be a great fit for, but I don't now how I ought to follow up with my connection at the company. All I have is his phone number and his linkedin. So should I text him or message him on linkedin about the opening?

It doesn't help you now, but just a pro-tip for next time so you don't find yourself without an appropriate avenue to contact this person (email).

During the LinkedIn back and forth when he agreed to a call and gave you his number, ask something along the lines of "Thanks Blank. What's a good email address for me to send a calendar block to?" Super innocent way to get their email address and usually is appreciated because most professionals live and die by what's on their calendar. Then when this situation arises later, you can follow up via the email address as well.

For this situation, I would lean towards using LinkedIn, because a cold call is strange if you've only spoken once and a text is a no-go unless this guy is one of your fraternity brothers or you have a previous working relationship. I don't think it's a red flag to use LinkedIn, although in my experience the follow-up hit rate is much lower. Whatever you say within your LinkedIn message, make sure to get his email i.e. "If you're still willing to put in a referral, what's a good email to use"

Also, when you message him asking for a referral, make sure to spell referral correctly.

Quick question for you: I had an informational chat with an analyst at a middle-market (MM) firm where I’m interested in interning this upcoming summer. The team is pretty lean (only about 15-18 people). We spoke for over 30 minutes, and I’d say the conversation went well. After the chat, he asked me to send him my resume, which I did. However, it’s been about 20 days, and I haven’t heard back from anyone at the firm. What should my next step be? Should I follow up? I also don’t want to come across as pushy.
