From non-banking FP&A to banking. Possible?

Hi everyone, hope you are doing well!

I’m an early career professional based in APAC. I started out as a management trainee and then moved into an FP&A role. While it’s been a solid experience, due to internal organizational circumstances and realizing the role isn’t quite what I’m looking for, I’m exploring a change.

I’m almost done with my CPA (US) and I'd like to move onto finance industry. I'm not particularly limited to a specific area but based on my understanding of the roles, I think corporate banking or credit analysis might be the most relevant for my back ground. I would just like to ask:

  • Based on my background (FP&A + CPA in progress), realistically what type of finance role would I able to apply? and if I have options, what position me best for future career growth opportunities?
  • How should I better prepare myself to get there?
  • For those who’ve taken a similar path, what worked (or didn’t) in making the transition?

Any advice would be appreciated and all the best wishes to fellow job seekers out there!
