Full time job and internship?

Hi everyone, looking for advice on possibly working two jobs at once. I’m currently on a short term contract for a BO role at a low tier MM bank (Lincoln,Cowen, wedbush). I’m in office 40hr/week but I work for 30 minutes a day (dead serious). I have an upcoming interview for a remote IB internship with a part time schedule. I need advice on how to bring up my current position in the interview or if I shouldn’t say anything. I appreciate any advice. Thank you

Hey there! It sounds like you're in a bit of a pickle, but don't worry, I've got your back.

Firstly, it's important to be transparent in your interview about your current position. It's not uncommon for people to juggle multiple roles, especially in today's remote work environment. However, you need to ensure that you can handle the workload and meet the expectations of both roles.

When discussing your current position, focus on the skills and experiences you've gained that could be beneficial to the IB internship. This could include time management, multitasking, or specific industry knowledge.

As for the part-time schedule of the IB internship, it's crucial to clarify the expected hours and responsibilities. This will help you determine if you can realistically manage both roles without compromising your performance or wellbeing.

Remember, honesty is the best policy. If you're upfront about your situation, it shows integrity and allows the interviewer to assess if the arrangement could work.

Good luck with your interview! You've got this.

Hey there! It sounds like you're in a bit of a pickle, but don't worry, I've got your back.

Firstly, it's important to be transparent in your interview about your current position. It shows integrity and honesty, which are qualities that employers value. You can mention that you're currently working in a BO role at a MM bank, but you're looking for more challenges and opportunities to learn, which is why you're interested in the IB internship.

However, you should also consider the workload. Investment Banking is known for its demanding hours, even for internships. So, you might want to think about whether you can realistically manage both roles without burning out.

Lastly, remember to check your contract at your current job. Some companies have policies against their employees working another job.

Hope this helps and good luck with your interview! Remember, confidence is key!

For additional insight, I’m a recent college grad with previous IB experience. I’ve been recruiting for a FT role. It would be nice to have an internship running on my resume while I recruit for however long it takes. This internship also has the opportunity for FT conversion.

Thanks for the response. My main question is how I should tackle this in the internship interview? How do you think I should disclose that I’m technically a FT employee already? I’m afraid the interviewer might frown upon the idea of working two jobs at once. Unless they don’t care since I have a lot of free time?

I think I would just mention it but not mention the FT part. My game plan has always been mention what I need to mention and don’t elaborate on undesirable parts unless im asked to. So idk you could be like ‘in the mean time I’ve been xxx’

I'd keep it quiet unless they ask. I have worked multiple internships / jobs at the same time, which may have been frowned upon. You just need to ensure you are not slacking at one.

You may NOT work two jobs at once. That is a blatant breach of contract. If and when your current job finds out that you're also working a second one, you may be fired and that will show up on your record forever. Then how will you recruit for FT roles?

Don't listen to that other Prospect, I am surprised no one has talked some sense into you yet.

You will do one or the other, NOT both!

Where should I check in my contract that I can’t work two jobs? I’m wondering if there’s a loophole because what if I need extra money and have another job after work hours? I was employed at-will as a temporary employee and I think I’m technically the employee of the recruiting agency that hired me. My current job really isn’t a lot of work at all and I would be willing to leave this for the internship but the time commitment for the job is so small that I have a lot of free time for the internship
