Getting an internship while getting a msf
I am hoping to apply to a msf program, after I graduate my GPA isn't the best and I come from a non target school.
The worst part is that I don't have any internship experience since I decided I wanted to go into finance close to when I'm graduating.
I'm hoping that getting a msf degree would help open some doors into IB how realistic is that?
Also if you haven't gotten any internships before, would using your msf schools network make it easier and more likely to get an internship at a company esp for a person who has no experience in the financial services.
As far as I'm concerned an MSF is just a method for delaying graduation to give you more time to network and open up new doors, it's not necessary in any way for IB. Coming from a nontarget program is going to be the same as a nontarget undergrad, network a lot.
I interned at a mezz shop during the spring, wonderful experience. I interned at a boutique IB that wasn't worth putting on my resume. I am at a RE IB right now that is pretty cool.
My advice. If you are going the MSF route, decide which school and start networking before you go. One year goes by fast and you need to hit the ground running.
MSF Pros:
1) New network 2) Another year to intern, recruiting 3) Graduate level degree (high pay for govt jobs, looked at the same as an MBA at F500, ect)
MSF Cons:
1)Expensive 2) Another year gone 3) Not easy
I loved my Villanova experience, but happily recommend many other top programs. Check out my site, there is a lot of student reviews, placement stats, etc.
Doing an internship with a MSc (Originally Posted: 08/06/2014)
Hi everyone,
I start a MSc in Finance at LSE in september. I would like to apply for a summer internship next year. I have the choice between a summer analyst internship and a summer associate internship.
My problem is: I don’t know what kind of internships I should apply. Most of companies ask we do an MBA or an equivalent degree to do an associate internship. And I’m afraid that summer analyst internship is more for undergraduate.
What do you think? Do you think it’s possible to apply for an associate internship even if I do a MSc?
Just to tell you, I’m currently 23 yo so next year I will be 24.
Can you help me please?
Thanks a lot
Describe your work experience. It doesn't matter how old you are, it matters how long you've worked for and what you've done.
Summer analyst, I did a Msc last year in the UK and applied to only summer analyst and ft analyst positions. Summer associate is most likely out of the question at 23, since u probably haven't worked much.
Also interested as I am gonna be doing my masters at LSE. Any ideas which bank/firms let MSc/final-year students to apply for SA gigs? I know that from the Big 4 only EY allows it.
To be honest, I haven't so many work experiences. I graduated last year with a bachelor of business administration (management pathway) from a french business school (I'm French).
So what do you think now?
I'm sorry but what is SA?
Thanks
SA=summer analyst
summer analyst, associate is for MBA's. High percentage of analysts in Europe has a MSc these days.
Guys, any other answers please?
