Help with job search strategy?
Been incredibly demoralized with my job search and wanted some advice on how to improve.
Background - Current working in a Fund of Funds role at a family office for 5.5 years - Previously at an F500 doing FP&A for 5.5 years
Objective - Have been trying to get out to land jobs in Investment Banking / Venture capital / Corporate Development. I am applying for JUNIOR roles (ie. not managerial grade roles) because I am aware of the lack of skillset that a Fund of Funds gives you.
Problem - Been applying jobs for over 1.5 years. Have gotten 5 interviews and 0 offers.
How I find jobs - From Monday to Saturday, I search a few job boards for roles mentioned above - Friends have told me to try to network. The issue is that the finance community is quite small (not a first-tier city) and my superiors do know a lot of people. Once when I went for an interview, my boss hinted that she may have been aware of it after talking to someone there but I flatly denied it. This incident has had repercussions on me within the firm and I have fallen out of favour with her compared to my peers. Because of this, I have to be very careful when reaching out to people to network and I cannot blindly reach out to people. I actively avoid applying for roles where I know she has a contact there.
My question - How can I improve my job search strategy? - Any feedback would be handy?
