HH from resume to interview timeline?
Have been connecting with HHs for PE/HF IR jobs for the past month (currently at 1.5 years banking) and have done lots of intro calls and sent my resume over etc. All of them said they would send my resume across to the specific opportunities we discussed that I expressed interest in. However it's been like a week and have only heard back for an HR first round at one shop. I know PE processes move quickly at least for on-cycle but are off-cycle processes this slow especially for IR? Or does it mean I'm just not that strong of a candidate?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, off-cycle processes, especially for roles like Investor Relations (IR) in PE/HF, tend to move slower compared to the on-cycle frenzy. Unlike on-cycle recruiting, which is highly compressed and fast-paced, off-cycle recruiting can stretch over weeks or even months. Firms may not be in a rush to fill positions, and some may even drag their feet in providing updates or scheduling interviews.
Here are a few key points to consider:
Timeline Variability: Off-cycle processes are less structured, and timelines can vary significantly. A week without hearing back is not unusual, especially for off-cycle roles.
Candidate Strength: While it's natural to question your candidacy, the delay doesn't necessarily reflect your strength as a candidate. It could simply be that the firms are taking their time to review resumes, coordinate internally, or prioritize other tasks.
Follow-Up: It's a good idea to follow up with the headhunters (HHs) after a week or so to check on the status of your applications. A polite nudge can sometimes help move things along.
IR-Specific Dynamics: IR roles may not follow the same urgency as investment roles in PE/HF. The hiring process for IR positions might involve more deliberation, as these roles often require a specific cultural and strategic fit.
In summary, the slower pace you're experiencing is typical for off-cycle recruiting, especially for IR roles. Keep engaging with HHs, follow up strategically, and continue networking to maximize your chances.
