How do you answer "What pay range do you expect?"
I am very motivated to move out of my current job, but obviously don't want to signal desperation.
Should I try to be more quantitative (for example say in the mid-$100ks) or qualitative (I am looking for strong career progression) when HR or recruiters ask me about pay expectations?
Proposed response: "What do you think?"
It can be quite situational depending on what is listed for the role. Most of the roles I looked into, the salary range would be laid out by HR on the introductory call or in the job posting.
Ask what the budgeted range for the role is.
