How to deal with noncompete?
Currently have 2 years of exp in ER. My employer has a non compete that covers the entire United States and last for 3 months.
Can I just ignore this? I don’t want to tell the companies im interviewing with bc I feel like I won’t get further in the process. Any thoughts? This is a new thing the company started doing in for junior people. Also not fully licensed if that matters so no name on notes.
Just interview and get a job that starts after the noncompete ends. Take some time off and travel or relax.
This is a very niche and specific industry. I’m junior and am confident I can get the job but they aren’t gonna wait for 3 months. It’s hiring as needed and not part of a class.
If you are going to a role that has no office within a 50 mile radius, absolutely ignore it. If you live in California, absolutely ignore it.
If your new employer has offices within a 50 mile radius, just weigh the risk-reward. If you are moving to a direct competitor you may have an issue. If you are not working at a direct competitor you should be fine but it is entirely plausible they make a stink of it. The best thing to do is to, unless there is some HR form that directly asks you if you have a noncompete (if it does then you MUST be honest), just don’t bring it up unless someone asks. Then, when you receive the offer, tell them and ask them to review and see if they have any issues hiring you
Current employer has a satellite in nyc but not HQ. It’s a small satellite.
I think if I tell anyone I’m kinda screwed. ER is a fill as needed basis.
That’s a good idea. It does. Cover the entire country. The HQ of my current company (where I’m based out of) is not in nyc. The new company would be in nyc.
It’s a completely different coverage group.
What if I didn’t say anything to either company? I feel as if I’m pretty low level and they wouldn’t do anything about it, but you never know.
Additionally it’s for a coverage group that my current company does not currently have.
