How to Network Late in Process
The recruiting process has certainly caught up to me and put me in a precarious position. 2 weeks ago I felt like I was in a strong position but now if seems like some of the opportunities are drying up. I go to a strong semi-target and have had 2 super days so far, along with 1 first round, none of which have worked out. I have a strong GPA and have submitted apps nearly everywhere but I know most first rounds come from networking.
Given that some places are already finishing up with their recruiting, how should I go about networking to ensure that I get some more first round interviews that will hopefully lead to offers? Should I treat it like my early networking calls where I ask about their experience with the firm or be a bit more direct?
TBH if I were you I'd just be a bit more direct. Obviously you should still warm into the process a little and get to know them a bit, but in a well worded way you should just try to slip into their offices recruitment process (towards the end of the call). With how fast things are moving, most likely they will even bring it up (i.e. tell you "no/few spots left" or we are just "starting"). Idk if this is def the right move and some ppl might disagree with me, but this is what ive been telling my friends who are in the same position as you are and its working.
I reached out this morning and it lead to a first round next week. Recruiting isn't over yet. Thanks for the advice.

So I am lucky enough to go to a Target school, and on paper my resume is pretty good. I've know my technicals pretty well, and I've had experiences that clearly demonstrate my interest in Investment Banking. I am a sophomore and recruiting for 2019 SA positions, and I realized I have not been networking at all. I have sent thank you emails to many of the people I met at the campus information sessions this spring, but other than that I have done limited work. Given my shortened timeline, what is the most time-efficient way to network with bankers at this time (two banks I already applied to make final round interview selections in the next two months I believe). Would attaching my resume to initial outreach emails be too arrogant (I am solid on paper, high GPA, relevant experience, but don't want to come across as a d**che)? Any other best practices? Thanks so much!
Reach out to alumni at the two banks you applied to right away. When emailing alums, don't attach your resume. Let them ask for it. If you really want to attach a resume, say something like "I attached my resume for context" or less formal "here's my resume for a quick background on me." Just make sure to sound like a chill guy in the initial email since they know you're using them to get a final round interview.

I'm a junior with no summer internship at a non-target. It it possible to get something out of networking or should I just wait and see who comes by our school for on-campus recruitment?
