How to talk to IB Director/MDs as an introvert?

I get that you should "just chat" about whatever and not try to talk about fancy technical stuff but instead talk like you're talking to a friend. But being an introvert and knowing the other person is pulling in around a million a year plus has the power to hire and get me a job paying 6 figures, I get fucking nervous. How do I navigate around this? Any other introverts have some useful tips on how to approach and what to ask?

I am an introvert as well, and basically the best solution to this problem is to get comfortable by just doing it. It may not be as smooth as you want it to be at first, but with each conversation you have, it will be easier. Something else that you could do is to go to your school's career center and get advice on this topic. They might even be willing to conduct an "interview" with you where you would have to talk in this way, and get some practice for when you have to talk to an MD/VP/whoever. One last thing: even though MD's and VP's etc. do command respect because of their position and so forth, remember that they are just people, and that will help you to relax and stay calm when talking to them.

Start by talking to analysts/associates (like 20+ phone calls) and get comfortable with the cold call conversation. There's less at stake and they're closer in age and have probably been through this situation. MDs/Ds talk and sell for a living and are paid to be outgoing, I found they were much easier to talk to if you can get them on the phone. But you need to get past being super impressed by their salary/job, analyst calls are an easy way to do so.
