Hypothetical Situation: Returning to the Finance Sector after 8+ years.

Well I came from a non-target school as a Finance major and managed to land a job at several boutique banks and 1 bulge bracket bank along the securities, investment management, global investment research and investment banking fields.

However, I denied all of those jobs for my childhood dream (secret) which didn't involve finance at all. I've been doing my secret career for over 8 years but what I don't like is that it's actually dangerous and I'm travelling way too much.

Now I could continue this career but I'm considering going back to the finance sector. The thing is, I'm in my early 30's and haven't really been in touch with the latest of the investment banking fields. I mean I go on Bloomberg quite frequently to see what companies are up to but IDK much about what's happening in banks what kinds of products and tools they're using these days.

So what I'm asking is given my absence from the Finance sector, is it a good idea to come back?

Are you ex NFL? Don't have much to attribute on this so I've resorted to career speculation

Listen, here's the thing. If you can't spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, then you are the sucker.

I have a question for you OP.

Let's say someone works for a top secret intelligence agency and wants to get out after a few years and do something in the private sector or apply to B school.

Can they ever mention where they worked or what they accomplished? Where will they get recommendation letters?

B-School. Mainly because you don't wanna be in your 30s earning analyst pay and also it'll give you time to figure out how the industry has moved in the past 8 years. I got randomly called for a not so "secret" job coming out of ug (translator): wanted to send me to a desert sh*thole for 128k. Though 6 years later I literally have no savings besides equity in my home: I am really happy I didn't go.

@torchimp I believe analysts make 75K+ a bonus which is actually a bit more than my salary. I also saved a lot of money pretty much because I still don't have a family.
