I am moving to the U.S and so am seeking advice

Hey there folks!

Was browsing the Internet for forums and came across this particular site.

Little bit of background:

I’m a British citizen, and am now transferring over to the U.S. having requested to do so. Reason being, I’m planning to make the U.S. my permanent home - it’s always been a dream of mine.

I have been given a few options to choose from which is nice since company transfers are often ‘you take what you get’ - which is something I definitely wouldn’t have minded in this instance.

Considering that I’ll be making around £650k GBP (around $760k on current FX rates), which would be the best location for tax purposes? My priority really is an area where I can settle down and relax with a family in the years to come. Good quality of life, great houses, fantastic nightlife, quality education, etc.

I’d love to hear the pro/cons for each basically.

Options (alphabetised):

  • Chicago, IL
  • Boston, MA
  • Dallas, TX
  • Los Angeles, CA
  • New York, NY

I appreciate your help.

Best Regards.

"Fantastic nightlife" & "Quality education", come on, please...you're looking for family-based "night-life"? Why not stay there and help Boris Johnson do the needful....get a good Brexit deal:)

"P12" Alphabetised, yet C before B?

damn, you beat me to it - haha I found that so funny ... he even made the effort to point out that it was alphabetized in parenthesis ...

You mentioned taxes as important (Dallas wins there) but I would also consider weather and if you want to live in -10 degrees C or 30 degrees C. Those are very different climates. LA is sunny all of the time, NY, Boston, Chicago all very cold and get snow, Dallas is in the middle but very hot in the summer.

Does Dallas have a good family-based nightlife?
