I might have fu**ed up a good chance
I am applying for Summer 2024 Banking internships (I'm a 2nd-year undergrad) and I just applied to a UBS internship for freshmen only.
I guess I got carried away by applying to so many roles that when I read "2024" "Summer" and "10 weeks program" in the same sentence I just didn't bother reading the rest.
The problem is, they sent me an email to take a test and the results (that came immediately) turned out to be "extremely positive" or something like that.
Now, it doesn't bother me too much that no one is probably going to consider my application because I'm not a first-year student.
What's making me panic is wether I can o can not apply again when other internship programs open; I think I saw something about being able to apply to only one program per year but it's been 20 minutes and I can not find anything that says that specifically. Can someone confirm it?
For the one I just applied, is my application going straight to the bin as soon as they realize I'm not a freshman? Should I contact them to ask for them to withdraw my application? (Not possible from the website)
Eh, don't take the pre-interview assessment too seriously, only thing it really does is ding you if you did horrible. Probably best to just apply to the correct internship and email hr
Assuming you can't contact HR (which seems to be the case based on your post), and assuming that you can't re-apply in the same year to multiple programs (which I guess is the only scenario we care about), then I don't have a silver bullet but:
1) Can you apply with a different email address? (My guess is that they probably screen for multiple applicants from the same university with the same name and same DOB, so that idea might be a dud)
2) Can you withdraw your existing application? (I guess you've already tried that)
3) Can you network with someone inside the firm and get them to refer you to HR directly? They should have the right graduate recruitment contacts (I admit that this is a long shot, but I know that *IF* I were willing to bat for someone, I could drop an email to HR like that. You'd have to sit through the same tests and such, but it would get you an inroad with HR that you can't do externally)
Just some immediate thoughts, although I admit not too helpful.
If not, then relax. Not to be negative, but UBS will have thousands of applicants, and even if you passed the assessment, it wasn't the same as about to sign the contract. And there are a number of other really good institutions to apply to, so it isnt the end of the world.
Good luck!
