I need a starting point and some direction
Hello fellow, Monkey. I'm new to the scene and stumbled upon this website while doing some extensive research into the corporate finance world. These industries have always intrigued me from the beginning of my undergrad studies. Two years in my undergraduate studies, I enlisted in the US Army for financial reasons as they would pay for the rest of my education and it was sort of a family tradition with me being the 4th sibling to enlist. After finishing all my initial military training I quickly enrolled back into school and finished my Business Admin degree with a minor in Finance and a 3.8 GPA. My contract for the military is coming up and it is time for me to start planning my transition into civilian life and continue on the path that interested me in the beginning, corporate finance.
I've ready some success stories around these forums and they sound amazing, but it kind of makes me feel like the odd one out because I never had an opportunity to land summer interns and such because I was either in the field or training with my Unit. Some people still think it was a miracle I was able to stay dedicated to my plan and finish my degree with being so busy with military life. I am very hard headed and I don't want to believe that there is no hope for me in breaking into these industries of corporate finance.
I'm due to get out May of 2018. I am wondering if anyone would have some guidance on how I should try to break in this industry and where should I start? I would have no problem with a small Entry level position for 1-2 years and try to work my way into Investment Banking after I've acquired a few experience under my belt.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My due date is about a year out, but I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before I leave the military so I won't have to worry about much.
