I want to pick stocks for a living
Hi all, I've been investing through my own portfolio since 2016 and I eventually want to do this as a full-time job. I know mega funds like Blackrock have ETF managers but I was thinking something like an ARK Investment Management role where I work side by side with a thesis and invest thematically within that universe.
I know there's a lot to learn and it's a different skill set, but I'd like to set up my career to become a public markets investor.
Does anyone have any advice on how to break into this career path? For starters, I'll be working in Investment Banking in NYC as a full time analyst out of college this coming august.
Get a job at a L/S equity fund after working in banking
How would I even start that process?
You are already on the right path? Aggressively recruit to buy side after 6 months. If you want to trade/manage money ASAP best to go to MM platforms. If you want to be long term/ safer career go with established LO or a SM HF that's a good fit. Can also go the PE -> better brand name HF path if you want but that's gonna be a grind.
Why is this latter route a grind? You're just talking time-wise? That it will take you longer to get to HF, if you go the PE route first?
