IB RECRUITING ADVICE/TIPS

Hi everyone,

I am wanting to break into IB and with my current situation, I want to see what steps I should be taking.

A little bit about myself, I am a current sophomore at a non-target school (Rutgers) double majoring in Finance & Economics. I initially went to CC for 3 years (due to financial and health reasons) where I received an associates in Business Administration. I am aware I should leave CC off my resume.

Once I transferred to Rutgers with a full-ride scholarship, I decided I wanted to double major so that I was able to declare as a sophomore instead of a junior to better my chances and to take part in different sophomore events throughout the year.

After having small chats with people in the industry, doing my excessive research, and carefully figuring out if IB is right for me, I have decided that I want to pursue investment banking and really want to make sure I am on the right track and of course with hard work and dedication, be able to accomplish my goal.

I am aware of how competitive IB is and in terms of work experience, I have 0 internship experience and am currently working at an Amazon fulfillment center to help my family pay bills. I have applied for unpaid internships but none of the employers have reached back to me yet. Should I keep looking for a new job or an internship during the school year?

I am currently studying for the CFA investment foundations certification and looking for a good financial modeling course package to work on and to add to my resume.

What steps should I be taking and how do I better my chances in landing a SA role which will eventually lead to a full-time offer.

Any tips or advice is deeply appreciated!

Thanks, everyone!
