Internship at Markit Group?

Hey, I'm new here but have been browsing for a while :)

I have the opportunity to do a SA stint at Markit Group in their Valuations department as a Quant Analyst.

To be honest I don't know much about them or about the internship, would it be good experience to get into S+T at a BB for their grad programme or is this back office stuff ?

Thanks in advance!

Hi BritBoy.

I will talk to you in my own personal experience. I will be entering S&T full-time upon graduation and I am from a target school.

I did not have BB experience, nor did I have specific IB or S&T experience.

However, I ended up with 3 IB and 1 S&T offer for the close of my on campus recruiting last semester.

There are many people that will advocate for name brand, since essentially it will make your resume stand out. However, I like to advocate for the bullet points that go below the name.

So you are in the valuations department as a quant... great. maybe mid back office, but still shows you have quantitative skills, and if proactive enough you may just get the experience and skills needed to market yourself for recruiting later on.

Go for whatever gives you the most responsibility and from there on its not the internship that really makes you per se, it is you who makes you (sorry sounds cliche but its true) its about how you market yourself. if you dont have directly related experience, what transferable skills have you learned, developed, or refined? how are you now a better value adding asset that can be a more desirable candidate than other BB interns.
