Is it too aggressive...?
I've been talking to an alumni at a BB; he happens to be an MD, but not exactly in the area I want to go into. So far, what I've done is continuously go through him to progressively narrow my search into the area I want, while talking to many analysts and associates that I come across. Today I sent an email asking if he could refer me to the desks I'm interested in.
I'm beginning to wonder: I've been doing this for 4 weeks and I do it every week. Would this be too aggressive? Is this going to annoy him? Should I slow down and dig in for the long haul?
you ask him every week to refer you to more people that aren't in his group? yeah that's a little aggressive... talk to the people he recommended the first time and then leverage them to get referrals that they know...
I've talked to the people he recommended already and they helped me a lot already with advice.
How would you recommend I ask those people about their contacts in the group I'm interested in?
If you can get in front of these people who he has introduced you to for a beer or dinner I think it would be easier. I did this and landed at a BB. Asked a mid level (VP) to drinks, we discussed my background and what I am looking to do, he then set me up with another meeting and it landed me the job.
I've already talked to them on the phone... How can I leverage a face-to-face with them now?
A) Ask them? B) Don't use the word "leverage"
Oops, I wasn't planning on using the word "leverage"... Just came out that way somehow.
