Is it true that econ/finance/accounting majors get grilled harder during IB interviews?
Friends and upperclassmen who went through recruiting are telling me that people who major in Econ get harder questions for investment banking and ultimately get grilled at the end of it. Is this true?
I'd assume we'd all be given the same type of questions in our IB interviews, regardless if you're majoring in gender studies or economics. I don't understand why interviewers would be willing to accept a "shittier" answer from a WGS major than an Econ major. I'd also assume that those who don't have prior experience in IB would be grilled harder, not lesser, to weed out nontraditional majors.
Or does major simply not matter and its all about GPA, and your experiences obviously.
Your major is taken into account but I don't believe certain majors have harder interviews. Relevant coursework is an area that's important. From my experience, interviewers have been more interested in my coursework than just my specific major. If they see you've taken accounting courses, you should be able to answer questions related to accounting.
What would they expect for those who haven't took any finance related classes then?
Had a networking event once, the analysts said that they would expect a finance major to explain an LBO or more technical aspects of a Cashflow statement. Whilst on the other hand they expect a math major to show higher level of logical reasoning.
