Is it wrong to network with people on the opposite side of a deal?
The title is pretty self-explanatory. Working at a PE firm for the summer and often see either very interesting opposing sponsors or top-tier advisors for the sell-side team. Given I'm aiming for an IB spot out of undergrad, would it be wrong to network with the sellside advisors? Appreciate any advice.
Good networking doesn’t feel like networking. Bad networking feels fake and forced.
It is a working relationship, so its not the same as a coffee chat. Ask questions when/if they fit in the normal course of interacting. Read their vibe. Build a rapport. Be humble.
And if down the line you have an interest, reach out with a question/request for advice with those you connected with more. We’re all human(for the most part) on both sides of the table.
