Is There Value In Delaying Graduation To Take Advantage Of Recruiting Cycles?
Hi everybody,
I'm a senior at a UC (not Berkeley or LA). I'll be graduating this June with a B.A. in Economics. I'll be pretty young for a college graduate because I've prioritized taking a bunch of classes over summer instead of getting internships these past few years, so I have no relevant internship or work experience. Not the best decisions, in hindsight.
My chief focus now is on networking, since that's my only real chance of getting my foot in the door. I asked Reddit if there was any way to take advantage of graduating young. They said that there isn't, and that it's probably in my best interest to delay graduation by 1 quarter so I can get a summer internship and then take advantage of the traditional recruiting cycle.
What do you all think of this approach? I'd like to be done with school sooner rather than later, but if this is my best option now (assuming I can't network my way into a job) then it's what's I'll do.
For reference: My goal is buy-side ER, but I realize I will almost certainly be relegated to a sell-side position at first.
