Job Offer Was Rescinded – Need Advice

I just got my job offer for a consulting firm rescinded (due to macroeconomic conditions) and I spoke with HR, who mentioned that the majority of the incoming analyst class was impacted. However, they wouldn't get into specifics of how they chose people they would rescind offers for and those that would retain their offers.

I haven't done anything that would lead me to get on the bad side of the firm, and I thought I performed very well on the interviews. They're offering to let me keep my signing bonus and give me additional pay, on condition that I sign a release (which I guess would be me agreeing to their decision). Is it worth digging into the process of how offers were rescinded, to see if I was potentially discriminated against?

Just stings that not everyone in my class got their offers rescinded and that I don't have full details.

Could you clarify if this was a T2 firm or a boutique. I start in consulting this February and have had my offer at a botique IB rescinded before so just trying to make sure I don't get shafted again. Thanks!
