"horseradish2" Is it possible to join a trading desk say at 28 yrs old without a Quant degree and no previous Trading experience??
Yup, plenty of people have done it. You gotta bring something to the party, obviously, but it's totally possible.
I have a friend who lives in the country, and it's supposed to be an hour from 42nd Street. A lie! The only thing that's an hour from 42nd Street is 43rd Street!

Thank you I understand that “trading desk” is a bit generic, anyway when I posted I was thinking more about Sales / Trading type of positions in IB. Were you thinking about same type of position?

Also what is the difference vs. a Research position on a trading IB desk? Is that the same?

.....Then there are exec trader / assistant PM type of positions in AM that could either be good or bad in my opinion: Bad = pure exec / “middle office” trader, which can be a dead end Good = “deputy” PM

Do you share same views?

based on your questions, you seem to be pretty green. What is your experience / skills / career history? If you are a mathematician with a PhD in stats and string theory, that is a different story from a person with a degree in Literature who just woke up one day and wants to be a "trader".

just google it...you're welcome

btw...28 is not "advanced stage" of career...its still very early / young. You could still get a masters degree in some quantitative course if you wanted / have the aptitude. 2-3 years of school at your age is not that uncommon....life is very long.

just google it...you're welcome
