Listen man, recruiting is hard... I get that. It is undeniable that luck – or as Machiavelli would call it, Fortuna – plays a major role in one's success (or failure).
The only way to overcome the unpredictability of Fortuna is to cultivate one's own Virtù – which is essentially your ability to adapt to circumstance and develop a strategy to move forward. The footnote here – and do not be quick to erroneously congratulate yourself – is that Machiavelli did not believe in the application of any sort of ethical lens to the planning process. Fine... then why not offer what is effectively a bribe to land a first-round interview? Simple – optics are everything. Try for a second to imagine the scenario in which your plan actually works. You get a first-round and kill the interview. The super day comes and you crush that too. Summer comes and you are on the desk. The analyst (or associate or whoever is dumb enough to accept your bribe) does not respect or trust you. But wait you say, couldn't my willingness to offer a bribe indicate that I am ready to do whatever it takes? No, it actually signals quite the opposite. If you ~truly~ are willing to do whatever it takes, your first step should be refining your process. Cultivate your own Virtù. It seems your desire for short-term gratification has led you to believe that you should seek to skip the most important step in recruiting.
Tbh, a bank is never going to say “wow! he’s willing to be paid less” - banks will offer who they see the best people their regular salary on their team. Lots of this is luck, so keep grinding, the hiring market will pick backup eventually king
thanks man, i really appreciate your encouragement.
on another note its not about being paid less to secure a job - more so that I never even had the chance to prove my skills. I understand that this sounds extremely pretentious, but I honestly do think I'll perform extremely well. The only thing is that I haven't even gotten a first round interview to demonstrate this and feels like everything I've been working for is for nothing, like wasted potential. I refuse to believe I am so underqualified for all the positions when banks haven't even had the chance to tell. Until I get an interview and have a banker flat out tell me I'm not good enough, I refuse to accept defeat. if that makes any sense.
I'd rather have someone tell me im not good enough than always think i'd be the perfect candidate and bitch about not having any opportunities to prove it.
You just did not network well, you may go to a non-target, you may not be likeable, you may not be qualified as you so claim, maybe you aren’t lucky. There’s a lot of shit that goes into this, but I’ve been able to get interviews.
