Lateral to Moelis
What are people's thoughts on lateralling to Moelis from a 2nd tier bank? Specifically their LA office. Given that they have a smaller analyst pool, is it futile to try to get in as a 2nd yr analyst?
I hear Moelis NY over-hired a bit last year, so it may be harder to lateral. Moelis LA i have no idea.
Confused with your question though. Are you asking what people think about the opportunity or the odds? If you're asking about odds, why are you so focused on Moelis - shouldn't you cast a wider nest with EB space?
I wouldn't walk around with the mindset of getting in a specific group at a specific shop. Have an ideal environment you would like to be apart of and try to find it.
That opening within Moelis LA may never come up in the next 3 years...
Thanks for the replies. To answer both--I will be casting a wide net into EB/BBs, but used Moelis as an example because it was an ideal top choice. What are your thoughts on lateraling in general from a 2nd tier to EB/BB?
