Looking for some advice on getting a search fund internship

I'm looking through searchfunder.com to look for search funds to connect with. I am not sure how I should be approaching this though.

When emailing the principal, should I structure it as more of a "networking" email where I try to get them on the phone, or is it more acceptable to be direct and ask them if they are looking for an intern.

I also found a few that advertise exposure to modeling and other forms of mentorships but the say that the internship started last week. Would it still be worth a shot to email them?

I would be direct and state that you really would like to work for them. Check out their LinkedIn profile and come up with 1-2 reasons as to why. Mention that you are passionate about the space and like the idea of working so closely with someone making the key investment decisions and coming up with their investment thesis

When vetting the opportunity, ask about modeling exposure, valuation theory, pulling comps, looking at precedent transactions etc. Be clear that you want to do more than compile lists of companies that meet certain criteria, but that you want to analyze industries, look for macro trends, better understand how to value businesses etc.
