Major PE firm position

Hello. I have an unusual situation:

I'm a student currently working an internship at a tech incubator. I also run an investment club at my school. We had this guy come speak to our club—high-level exec from major PE firm. I had coffee with him and I think it went well. It was in the spring, and I was looking for summer jobs, so I asked him if he might be able to get me an internship (I'm a little young for anything standard). He said no promises, but he'd hunt around. I haven't heard back from him, but I know for a fact that he is crazy busy and has no time for stuff like this. I don't want to not follow up. Do I send a follow-up email and ask if he might have anything (assuming he basically forgot/had other stuff to deal with), email him and tell him I'm working now and try and maintain the connection, or do nothing and reconnect next year for coffee? I don't want to blow my connection here asking for something so soon. I'm new to this, so I'd appreciate any advice you guys have. Thanks.

When you're off his radar, you have to be bold and persistent to get back on it, but don't cross the line to the point of becoming annoying, because then he will flick you like the fly that you are.

"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." - Bruce Lee
