Michigan Monkeys, where you at!?

So, my fiance' and I are currently living in NYC, but she just about cries every day about wanting to move back to Michigan. I was planning on starting my MBA this fall at Fordham, but it's possible to move back at anytime.

My question though, what are the job prospects like in Michigan? I haven't actually searched for a banking job in Michigan since the end of 2011 so I don't know what it will be like. I know there isn't too much going on there compared to NYC, but because of that I feel like the competition wouldn't be as crazy. I can't imagine that there is a line up of Ivy leagues trying to get into a firm in Michigan.

I did a search of "michigan" and basically all I got was pages of threads talking about UofM.

Hey! i'm from metro-Detroit and you got it right, there's barely any banks out here. Your best bet will be boutiques..there are a few in Birmingham. i know of a few:

Quarton Partners Angle Advisors Stephens Mid-States Capital Huron Capital Siebert Brandford Shank

You can just google it and do a parallel check on linkedin. It's tough out here, i'm sure if you have the right banking experience you will have a good chance. Other than that, you could always work for Ford or GM. I know a lot of ex-bankers that did that and are happy. I believe Ford's treasury program is great and GM's strategy team as well and both prefer banking backgrounds. Most bankers are Ross grads that wanted to stay here, I guess. There's also a few in Grand Rapids or something but not sure.

what city are you planning to move to?
