Missed HR Call, How Often To Call Back

Alright, so I don't answer the phone anymore unless I know who it is. Last time I answered the first time I got technicals and questions about a company I was not ready for. This time:

  • Monday, 4:50pm: HR from a mid size company called me. I let it go to voicemail.
  • Monday, 5:05pm: I did some quick research and whatnot and gave him a call back. No answer, dude's probably stuck in traffic on the way home. He mentioned wanting to bring me in hopefully before the end of the week in the VM.
  • Tuesday, 9:30am: I called back, no answer. I was heading to another interview during the day so I couldn't call around lunch.
  • Tuesday, 4:30pm: I gave another call, rings twice then immediately went to VM. Left a message.

At this point do I let him get back to me or do I nag the shit out of him?

Left a Voicemail No Call Back

What should you do when you’re playing phone tag with HR? It can be hard to find the balance between staying on top of the opportunity and being annoying and pestering. A few tips for handling this situation:

  • Always leave a message in your voicemail
  • Send an email follow-up
  • Make sure to call during normal business hours (yes, this can be tricky while you’re at your current job)
  • Don’t call every day or multiples times a day, give the person a chance to respond

Email. For the record, always leave a brief message if they don't answer the phone. You've already called twice though, so just email and await his response.

Had a similar situation, kinda...

Wed: Got a missed call from mid-sized boutique HF at 6 pm Thurs: Call back 8:30 am and left voice mail. Fri through Mon: No hear back Tues: Call again, set up the face-to-face interview
