Most Affordable Tier I city to live

I am applying and interviewing for Associate Consulting positions. Most of them are located in Tier 1 cities (SF, NYC, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles etc). I have experience living in Los Angeles and know of the paper cuts that end up adding up to total cost of living (the fact there is no parking and must be paid at all times, poor public transportation, awful traffic everywhere).

Does anyone know (esp those experienced in multiple) of the most affordable tier I city? If I got an offer in multiple cities, I would like to be wise to choose the best.
