Moving from S&T (Macro Rates Sales) to the Buyside
I'm looking to generate some ideas for the next few years as my bank only promotes some 30% of Analyst level salespeople to the associate level. Everyone else either moves around the bank to other groups/areas in the front office or goes to the buy side. My question is, what roles would be available to someone in Macro Rates Sales at various buy-side firms? Any firms in particular and general positions that come to mind would be helpful. As a preface, I'm at a Bulge Bracket and have some Investment Banking experience as well from 2 prior boutique internships back when I was at university. Getting a jump start on recruiting would be helpful so I can have an escape route if I don't make the cut as an Associate.
Have you considered being a committer? Seems like the path of least resistance, unless you’re dead set on moving to the buy-side.
pardon my ignorance but what is a committer?
It’s sell-side speak for Trader.
I would love to stay, but I live in reality, not Candyland. 30% odds are not good no matter how badly you think you're Rainman. Everyone needs plan A-Z in case things go south especially with the firing rounds that have been happening lately at bulge brackets. Just looking for options that a Macro Sales guy can have on the buy side. Most Salespeople that become traders usually have a more "quant-like' background. So that is out of the cards. I have other lateral options in place within the bank, but I feel as if that would be stalling rather than moving forward, not ideal.
