Moving into Investment Sales?

So as the title says, I'm interested in potentially moving into Investment Sales, with no preference towards switching firms or staying at the one I work for now. I'm currently an analyst in Asset Management (the back-end of lending kind of asset management - inspections, financial analysis, transaction/maturity management, etc), and while I can definitely say I've learned a lot I know it's just not for me.

Essentially, I'm asking for advice on how to position myself as a competitive candidate for an investment sales role in the future. A lot of the conventional wisdom at my firm is to get experience underwriting if you want to go into any kind of production role, as it gives you an idea of what deals look like (which I'd say is especially important for me since I'm currently on the back end, after closing). Would anyone agree with that advice, or suggest anything in addition or as an alternative? Thank you!
