My Internship just got pulled - advice?

I’m a non-target who worked my ass off to land a 2024 SA position at a fairly reputable MM (Not WB, but around there) and I just got a call that it’s been pulled. Honestly, I just feel down and destroyed by this whole process, but I feel like I’ve gone too far to quit at this point. Does anyone know of any banks or any groups that are still hiring/ dealing with reneging? Also if anyone has any advice or has been in a similar situation please leave it below, looking for a lifeboat rn.

I might be super paranoid, but I don’t know how many ppl they rescinded so forgive me for keeping it private for now

Naming doesn't do much - what are you realistically going to do with the bank? Start complaining?

For OP it is all loss and no gain to name the bank & potentially expose himself.

Always that one annoying mfer saying "name and shame" like that has potential to do anything other then hurt the person doing the naming.... just stfu or help the OP

That’s ridiculous, when was this meant to start and at what stage had the onboarding got to? Definitely name and shame as post above says!

Sorry to hear. My best advice is to not give up and start reaching back out to as many people as possible, explaining your situation.

PM if you want any suggestions about boutiques.

It's ok, it happens.

First off, you're right on not wanting to just give up or just walk away. If internships don't work out, no big deal. There are other things you can do for yourself to help you improve and prepare for a job. CFA level 1, SIE, and other certs and courses can be taken while you apply and go through the process again. All the while you're improving your marketability, and showing dedication to the program and the industry outside of work. Passion for dealing with complex financial models is a must. If you're just in it for the money then you'll find yourself unfulfilled and feeling down on yourself because you didn't meet some "standard". You're fine, and you're doing great.

I was doing some job research and I just happened to reach out to a bunch of companies that are starting up. There are micro-PE firms across the country hiring remote guys for small time deals. Having a job over an internship will provide you some benefits, but maybe not what you wanted. I guess a big thing I'm realizing is being completely ok with having plans and paths change and finding a way to course correct once I can get myself stable and back on track.

Don't sell yourself short, and don't let this pulled internship change your goals and path, just readjust and go with it.

Here are some resources that I found that might help the search

1. https://blog.symalite.com/micro-private-equity-firms/ This is a list of 6 firms that might have some good prospect

2. https://www.bitsfordigits.com/resources/the-rise-of-micro-private-equity This list has a bunch of firms down towards the bottom.

3. https://www.peterlohmann.com/blog/the-mini-berkshires-micro-pe This link has a few firms to check out as well.

These links should have a pretty good amount of firms to contact and just network. It's a job, get your foot in the door and add to your resume. In the guiding industry you have a "guide resume" this is typically 3-6 pages of everything you've ever done to include specific climbs, rivers rafted, summits reached, courses taken, guided trips taken, and so on. I've had 15 plus jobs in my 36 years of life, and each one of them is adding to my resume. Most of them are in the same industry but the titles and roles change a bit (Incident Command, lead rescuer, lead guide, guides director, guide manager, program director, guide coordinator, and so on.)

Good luck and enjoy the process
