need urgent advice on making transition

Hi all,

This is very personal post which I have to think about and make decision within 24 hours (asap). I am a recent graduate and started full-time in finance division at one of bulge brackets (GS/JPM/MS). It's a rotational program for two years.

Although I wanted to break into IBD, preferably in M&A Group, before I graduated, I wasn't able to land on it. I instead decided to take one step back and try internal transition after two years or through MBA Program. Meanwhile, for next two years, I can take advantage of a good work hours to study GMAT, CFA, and networking.

But I just got an interview offer for Real Estate Group in second-tier bulge bracket for immediate start in this summer. But RE Group is not the best group that I wanted to do because it's more of financing work and less deal expected since it's second-tier bank. On the other side, I really wanted to break into IBD and have a good experience earlier than later.

I don't know what to do... it's either I should go for it or politely reject the opportunity this time to the person who looked after me and ask for another opportunity in future (if he is kind or don't feel my rejection rude...).

I know this post is very personal and not well structured post but I am in real hurry and dilemma... Any suggestions or advice?

Second-tier BB...that never gets old.

RE IB -->Regular IBD or MBA is easier than Random finance job --> MBA-->IBD

"Look, you're my best friend, so don't take this the wrong way. In twenty years, if you're still livin' here, comin' over to my house to watch the Patriots games, still workin' construction, I'll fuckin' kill you. That's not a threat, that's a fact.

You should probably take it step by step considering this is only an interview.

What Will said. It's only an interview. You don't have an actual offer and there is no "dilemma" until you do. If I was your contact and you turned down the interview opportunity I set up for you, I would never try to help you again because that makes you look like an entitled prick (you're already there by the way). You can decline it when you actually have something.

Fucking GS back office kids these days, turning down "second tier" RE IB interviews. No, you're absolutely right, you should hold out for that internal GS TMT chance.

Also, I don't know what it is about your grammar (and I know it's just the internets so we shouldn't care that much) but it really pisses me off.

Under my tutelage, you will grow from boys to men. From men into gladiators. And from gladiators into SWANSONS.
